What are Bridges?
If you are missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in chewing and speaking. One of your options to help restore your smile involves having a fixed “bridge”.
Sometimes called a “fixed partial denture”, a “bridge” replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth by being cemented or bonded to surrounding teeth for support. It can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these materials.
Two appointments are often needed to complete the procedure. The fabrication of a “bridge” usually takes place in a dental laboratory and therefore, you will have a temporary bridge until the real one is cemented.
Unlike a partial which you can take out and clean, a fixed bridge stays in your mouth and can only be removed by a dentist. The success of a bridge depends on its foundation. So it’s very important to keep your remaining teeth healthy and strong by brushing and flossing your bridge.
